I have always worked in wood, not always well mind you. I appreciated the high speed, noisy dust producing machines that helped me knock out cabinet after cabinet, book shelf after book shelf. Do-dad after do-dad. You know what I mean. Several years back though allergies began to arrive in Spring and stayed through December. After many miserable days and nights and devouring a lot of woodworking articles on the topic, I began to elliminate the tools that created dust that helped propagate runny noses and itchy eyes. In the process of trying to breath, I rediscovered working with wood, and in the process, myself as a wood wright. Now, I build with as much hand-work as possible (there's nothing like a pile of wood shavings at the end of the day to measure your day's work): dovetails, breadboard ends, planed surfaces. It is re-discovery of the past. It is a re-discovery I enjoy sharing....RW
Below are several pieces I've built over the years. All the corners are hand cut dovetails. They are not only beautiful when done right, but are extremely strong. Several of these are painted using milk paint. I enjoy the whole process because you do not need to be an artist to paint. Just have to convince others that you are.....
